Queen Street Bridge Rehabilitation
Major Roads Projects Victoria are strengthening the Queen Street bridge to service the community for years to come.
Did you know...
The Queen Street bridge is a five span bridge and was constructed in 1969.
19,250 vehicles use the Queen Street bridge every day.
What works are planned?
Works at the Queen Street bridge over Laverton Creek in Altona include:
- upgrading the bridge to meet the modern traffic requirements
- upgrading the safety barriers to modern Australian standards
- monitoring and ensure the existing corrosion protection is maintained.
When are these works occuring?
Works to rehabilitate the Queen Street bridge will begin in January 2020 with an expected completion date by the end of 2020.
What can I expect during these works?
These works have been planned to minimise disruptions. Work on the bridge will occur behind safety barriers and under the bridge from pontoons.
The bike lane will be closed during these works with detours in place via the Coastal Trail and the Laverton Creek Trail.
To complete these works the speed leading to and across the bridge will be reduced to 40km/h, there will be occasional lane closures. When necessary the bridge will be closed to through traffic. During these times detours with traffic controllers will be in place to assist you with your journey.
