Rifle Range Wetlands Rehabilitation
Council manages 290 hectares of land for its biodiversity value and these are located over 20 sites across the municipality. Rifle Range Wetlands is a vital site in providing biodiversity value in Hobsons Bay. The Rifle Range Wetlands Rehabilitation project is connected to Council’s Biodiversity Strategy 2017-22 which aims to fix the overflow pits that control the flow of water between the ponds, to improve the water levels in the wetlands.
This will preserve the health of the wetlands and will maintain the highly ecological value of the site. Future construction will occur through a multi-year process of managing vegetation and undertaking silt level assessments to improve function of the wetlands.
Works will commence to fix the overflow pits water levels in early to mid 2020. During the construction phase there will be limited access to the area.
