Situated in the heart of Newport and surrounded by a range of community amenities, Paine Reserve is an important open space area and community reserve for a range of different users.
In 2019, following extensive consultation with local traders, clubs and community members, Council endorsed the Paine Reserve Landscape Master Plan(PDF, 502KB).
The master plan aims to provide:
- more opportunities for a wider range of events and users of the park with a large open lawn area, small plaza spaces and a new and improved play space
- a simplified park design and clear identity with improved signage, consistent furniture and materials used
- a greater connection between the nearby buildings and the park with an outdoor study deck at the Newport Library entrance and opening the edges of the park to local shops by removing garden beds and fences.
Stage 1 of the master plan started in May 2020. These works will take approximately seven months, at which time the site will re-open again. These works are weather dependent and include time to allow grass and plants to establish before the reserve re-opens to the public.
