Homestead Run Park Improvement Project

Homestead Run Reserve has some exciting changes in store!

Construction works to upgrade the playgrounds and associated landscape areas at Barry Jones Reserve commenced on 29 June and will start on 6 July at Homestead Run Reserve. The final design for the playgrounds was informed by community feedback received at drop-in sessions in May and October 2019. The playground upgrades are the final stage of works following the installation of fitness stations and basketball and netball hoops at Homestead Run Reserve and upgraded lighting to both Homestead Run and Barry Jones Reserves.

The upgrade works will include:

  • retention of existing swing set and spring rocker
  • removal of multi-play unit and enclosed cubby house
  • new play equipment including a sandpit with junior-aged slide and sand-play ’tools’
  • nature play elements - balancing logs, boulders and steppers
  • new picnic table setting and informal bench seat
  • additional shade trees and garden bed planting

omestead Run Reserve; expansion of existing playground to include play for older children, improved infrastructure and landscaping:

  • retention of existing play car, swing set, carousel, spinner and spring rockers
  • additional new playground equipment including a basket-seat swing set, trampoline and climbing net structure
  • nature play elements - balancing logs, boulders and steppers
  • new picnic table setting and shelter, additional seating, bicycle hoops and drinking fountain
  • additional shade trees and garden bed planting

Homestead Run barbecue area:

  • new double hot-plate barbecue to replace existing, single hot-plate barbecue

Homestead Run Community Cottage area:

  • new raised timber community garden beds installed to the north side of the cottage
  • new concrete footpath connecting carpark to existing circuit path

Temporary fencing panels will be installed around the playground areas during construction.

Works are expected to be completed in six weeks, weather permitting.

In 2017, several improvements were undertaken in Homestead Run Reserve as part of Council's maintenance program and driven by asset condition audits.

These maintenance works included:

  • new picnic shelter, picnic tables, rubbish bins and concrete paving to the area
  • upgraded park seating
  • new multi-activity playground equipment
  • repairs to existing concrete paving
  • new irrigation system and new turf to the central lawn area

These improvements were implemented in response to Council's maintenance and asset condition audits. In October 2017, Council received a number of submissions requesting further upgrades to the Reserve via Council's Time to Talk 2018-19 pre-budget consultation. In response to these submissions Council has been upgrading the reserve.
