Council is continuing with its commitment to zero net emissions through its Target 2265 - A Four Year Emissions Reduction Plan(PDF, 310KB). Following works to Altona Library last year, Council is installing solar panels at four buildings: Altona Meadows Library and Learning Centre, Altona North Community Library, Laverton Hub and Williamstown Library. The solar panels have a guaranteed performance and product warranty of 25 years and will pay for themselves within less than eight years.
Installation works are now completed.
The specifics of the reduction in both greenhouse gas emissions and costs at each site are as follows:
There will be no library closures. Some noise associated with the works can be expected during the installations. Council and the contractor are keen to minimise the impact on building users through careful planning of the works.
Story time and Rhymetime will still be held as scheduled.
Council’s solar panel installation works at Altona Library have resulted in a massive 85 per cent reduction in the building’s greenhouse gas emissions. This has been the result of several works to the building including new heating and cooling and solar panels. For further information please refer to the document below.
