Come along to hear from author of ‘The Plant Thieves’, Prudence Gibson will discuss some of the secrets and remarkable stories of plants. and what can the people that work with plants, just outside the law, teach us about plant care?
Dr Prudence Gibson will explore the secrets of the National Herbarium of New South Wales and share some of the remarkable stories of plant naming wars, rediscovered lost species, First Nations agriculture, illegal drug labs and psychoactive plant knowledge.
About the author
Dr Gibson is an academic at UNSW and is Lead CI of an ARC Linkage project in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens Herbarium, Sydney. Her recent book The Plant Thieves 2023 follows on from The Plant Contract (Brill 2018) and Covert Plants (Punctum 2018) reflect her research into Critical Plant Studies - plants, people and collections.
