Join Hobsons Bay’s young emerging curators in conversation with selected artists exhibited in the 2020 Woods Street Youth Art Prize. The discussion will focus on artworks in this year’s exhibition and explore participating artists’ practice and aspirations.
The Woods Street Youth Art Prize and associated events have been produced by Hobsons Bay City Council, Creative City in partnership with the Emerging Curators Program ( ECP).ECP is a professional development program that sees professional curators and arts managers mentor and support young aspiring curators.

Emerging Curators Program (ECP) committee
Melbourne based artist and curator Georgia Steele holds a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) in Printmaking from RMIT. In 2021, Georgia is completing a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) (Honours) in Curation. Currently practicing as a print-based artist, Georgia also runs workshops at Fire Station Print Studio, Armadale and Wood Street Art Space in Laverton.
In 2019, Georgia curated an exhibition and was an elected committee member for the Print Council of Australia. Georgia is currently undertaking an internship at Vivien Anderson Gallery, St Kilda. Georgia is represented by Fire Station Print Studio and is currently showing at Sydney Contemporary 2020. Georgia has been a resident of Hobsons Bay for many years now and is passionate about the west.
Mitchell Webster is a local Hobsons Bay resident and active community member who is passionate about the vibrant arts scene the municipality has to offer. Mitchell is a preservice teacher excited to work within the diverse schools within our communities.
Mitchell has a background in Fine Arts, majoring in Ceramics. Mitchell has sold his works in various retail stores and pop markets throughout Melbourne. Mitchell has worked closely with Mesh Mash, a local social enterprise located in Laverton that supports the empowerment of young voices through art. Mitchell work with Mesh Mash and the Woods Street Youth Art Prize has enabled him to develop rich networks within the Hobsons Bay creative community and beyond.
Chandler Brooks - Smith
Chandler Brooks - Smith is a Melbourne based artist who studied Visual Art at Australian catholic University (ACU) and will be completing her post graduate degree in Arts and Cultural Management this year. Chandler has interned with the Montsalvat Artist Colony and was selected to exhibit as part of the Nillumbik Art Prize in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Chandlers' art practice involves mainly working with textiles and other traditionally “feminine” mediums in an attempt to ‘rethink’ how we view and value female artistic contributions throughout history and within contemporary society.
