Venue Vouchers

 As part of Council’s COVID -19 Community Support Package 4 (CSP 4) to provide funding which targets local artists and creatives during the economy recovery phase, $12,500 is allocated to support local creatives to use local facilities and venues. Funding of up to $500 is available for artists, arts practitioners and arts related community groups to offset, contribute to, or cover costs in using hire spaces located in Hobsons Bay.

The funds to enable the hire of space can be allocated towards hire of a local venue for running an arts related workshop, rehearsal, visual arts exhibition or to develop or perform a performance (music, theatre, performance etc). The term venue is used loosely to define a space in which creative endeavours are undertaken and can include but is not limited to studio, community hall, community centre, neighbourhood house, gallery, dance studio, theatre, function venue. Venues can be Council, community or private spaces.  The venue needs to be located in Hobsons Bay.

I am an artist and I want to hire a private studio to prepare for a forthcoming exhibition. Can I apply for funding towards the cost of a private studio hire?

Yes, as long as the venue is in Hobsons Bay. Council’s COVID -19 Community Support Package 4 (CSP 4) is set up to provide funding to target local artists and creatives during the economy recovery phase. Funding is allocated to support local creatives to use local facilities and venues. You can apply for up to $500 to go towards the cost of venue hire in which creative endeavours are undertaken and can include but is not limited to studio, community hall, community centre, neighbourhood house, gallery, dance studio, theatre, function venue. Venues can be Council, community, or private spaces. 

 

 

I am an artist and I have a home studio. Can I apply for funding towards my rent or mortgage?

Housing rental or mortgage support are not eligible through the COVID -19 Community Support Package 4 as an existing studio cost. The funding is available for artists, arts practitioners, and arts related community groups to offset, contribute to, or cover costs associated with using paid hire spaces located in Hobsons Bay.

 

I am a visual artist and I have an exhibition coming up at a local gallery. I have booked and paid for the gallery space last year, however my exhibition is in October this year. Am I able to apply for funding even though I have already paid the venue hire fee?

Yes, if the exhibition space is located within Hobsons Bay, you can apply for up to $500 to go towards the cost of hire in which your work will be exhibited. Since your exhibition falls within the time frame, which is up to the end of December 2022, you can apply for the funding despite the fact you have paid upfront. If your application meets the criteria, you will need to provide a receipt of payment and your bank details and the funds can be transferred once processed. 

 

We are a local dance school and we were unable to put on our end of year performance due to COVID lockdown rules. We are hoping to hire a local theatre space in November 2022 to run a presentation night covering two years of graduation. Can we apply for this funding?

Yes, as long as the venue hired is located within Hobsons Bay, you can apply for up to $500 to go towards the cost of venue hire in which creative endeavours are undertaken. The closing date for applications is 1 June, however the time limit for the actual event can run up to the end of December 2022. You will need to provide evidence of booking or the funding can be paid directly to the venue.

 

We are a community group putting on an annual conference which spans over several days. The cost of venue hire far exceeds the maximum grant of $500. Can we apply for three separate grants to cover all three days?

The maximum amount per event is $500. You can apply for that amount to contribute to your overall venue hire costs. The venue you are hiring must be within the city of Hobsons Bay and your conference must be arts related. Council is committed to accommodating as many groups as possible through this funding but unfortunately there is a limited amount that can be given out and so we really want to share the love.

 

We are a community group which runs artist workshops. During lockdown we went to an online format for our workshops. We would like to apply for some money to go towards the cost of materials in order to support the running of the workshops.

COVID -19 Community Support Package 4 (CSP 4) is specific to venue hire in which creative endeavours are undertaken. It does not cover materials or ongoing operational costs.
