Boating facilities

Council is responsible for two boat ramps in Hobsons Bay.

Altona Boat Ramp and Safe Harbour

Altona boat ramp and safe boat harbour is located on Altona Road, Seaholme with parking available for 72 vehicles with trailers. The facilities include public toilets and a shaded fish cleaning area. There are no boat washing facility provided at this boat ramp. The safe boat harbour has six launching lanes and the capacity to shelter 70 to 100 boats depending upon size. There is regular sand movement in the dredged channel at the entrance to the safe boat harbour, care must be exercised when entering and leaving the safe boat harbour area as channel depth may change.

The Warmies, Newport

The Warmies Boat Ramp is located off The Strand in Newport. There is parking for 55 vehicles with trailers and a single ramp.

Fee and parking information

A ticket must be purchased and displayed to launch or retrieve a boat. Parking and ticket requirements are strictly enforced.

Tickets for single 24 hour casual use are available on site.

Regular users are encouraged to purchase an annual season ticket which is available from Council, either in person or online.

There is heavy demand for both ramps during peak periods and access cannot be guaranteed.

Parking is provided for vehicles and boat trailers. Parking restrictions within these car parks and in surrounding areas are strictly enforced.

Boat Ramp Annual Season Tickets

The current annual season ticket is valid from 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2019. Pro-rata is not available

An annual ticket allows access for boat launching and retrieval to the two ramps operated by Council, the Warmies in Newport and Altona Boat Ramp and Safe Harbour in Seaholme.

Demand for facilities is increasing and the issue of a ticket alone cannot guarantee access to these facilities during peak periods.

Boat ramp annual season tickets must be attached to the bottom corner of the vehicle windscreen on the passenger side and are non-transferable.

Vehicle/s nominated in the application form must be registered in the applicant's name.

Additional and replacement tickets

  • additional vehicle/s must be registered at the same address
  • a copy of the vehicle registration must be provided with applications for additional tickets
  • an administrative payment of $25 must be paid for any replacement ticket
