Kororoit Creek Reserve

LKC

This reserve is accessible from several points including Blackshaws Road, Marsh Street, McArthurs Road and Barnes Road. The main entrance into the reserve is off Blackshaws Road at G.J. Hosken Reserve opposite WLJ Crofts Reserve. There is a car park at this location with toilet amenities and safe access to the share trail.

Hobsons Bay City Council, Toyota Australia, the Victorian Government and Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek proudly opened the first major section of the Lower Kororoit Creek Trail in Hobsons Bay on Sunday 30 July, 2017 coinciding with National Tree Day. The 2.5km section of shared trail running from Grieve Parade to Barnes Road in Altona North, to be known as Toyota Way, was officially opened at a public launch event after planting 2,300 trees on the banks of the Kororoit Creek.

This section of the trail features an impressive series of three metre high public artworks entitled ‘Spirits of Time and Place’ created by Brooklyn artist Geoffrey Ricardo and will provide a much needed community and recreation space, bringing the community one step closer to the completion of the entire lower section of the Kororoit Creek Trail. This creek artery of natural significance used to be derelict industrial land, but thanks to the work of hundreds of community members over many years led by Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek, it has been transformed into a bushland oasis right on our doorstep that is home to a vast array of rare birds and wildlife. Not only will this section of trail open one of the ‘hidden gems’ in Melbourne’s West to the public, it is an important strategic piece of the puzzle that will connect to the broader cycling network of greater Melbourne.

‘Toyota Way’ and the ‘Spirits of Time and Place’ sculptures were predominantly funded by Toyota Australia as part of its legacy to the City of Hobsons Bay, with additional contribution from the Victorian Government, Melbourne Water and Hobsons Bay City Council. To become involved with the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek contact Council - 9932 1000 or email ranger@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au for further information.
