Major Events, Local Events and Festivals Funding Opportunities

Hobsons Bay City Council has a rich history of supporting arts, cultural, community, sporting, tourism and special interest events. These included the Laverton Festival, Williamstown Literary Festival and the Newport Folk Festival.

Funding Categories

Local Events and Festivals Funding

Up to $10,000 is available for events primarily attracting local audiences that enhance the quality of life of residents, celebrate local identity and culture and providing a range of community benefits including participation, wellbeing and community connections.

Applications for events taking place between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020 will be open from Monday 28 January until Tuesday 12 March.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend an information session prior to submitting an application.

These sessions will include information on the application process and funding priorities and provide advice on writing an application.

Up to $25,000 is available for major events generating substantial community, tourism and economic outcomes, including visitation, and which increase the profile of the city.

Special Event Sponsorship

This sponsorship opportunity is aimed at major events with the ability to generate substantial community, economic and tourism benefits. The event is likely to have a state, national or international profile and would attract visitors to the municipality. Potential applicants should discuss their proposal with the Events Unit at least six months prior to the event date.
