Events & Festivals

We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic may provide challenges for sporting, community and cultural events being held within the municipality of Hobsons Bay over the coming months.

If you have a public event planned over the coming months, please remain vigilant and up to date on current information.  The DHHS website remains the central point for up-to-date information on infection control, along with Alerts issued by the Victorian Chief Health Officer for critical information updates.

Council will support decisions by event organisers to cancel or postpone events previously supported or approved by the Hobsons Bay Events Team. Please contact the Events Team on 1300 179 994 or via events@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au to discuss or notify changes to your event planning.

Hobsons Bay City Council has a rich history of supporting arts, cultural, community, sporting, tourism and special interest events. From neighbourhood initiatives to major events, Hobsons Bay supports a diverse and expanding calendar of events that create vibrancy and contribute to making the city a great place to live and visit. 

Events and festivals play an important role in fostering a strong sense of community, local pride and cultural identity and provide a greater understanding and appreciation of where we live. They can generate a range of tourism and economic benefits, helping build the profile of our city and showcasing its key attributes.

To support the sustainability of the events program, and to ensure events and festivals can continue to evolve and meet the needs of the community, Council has developed the Events and Festivals Plan 2016 to 2021. The plan provides a strategic direction for the development of events and festivals as well as a framework for decision-making and planning. Aligned with the plan, is the Events and Festivals - Funding Policy and Guidelines. The Policy outlines the principles, criteria and process for the allocation of Council funds to events and festivals.
