2020 has been a massive year for young people in a variety of ways. With bushfires, Zoom classes and banana bread, young people’s resilience and strength has had little time under the spotlight. Victorian Youth Week is a chance for us all to pause and reflect upon the achievements, skills and successes that young people contribute to our community every day. This Victorian Youth Week has been extended to a full month from 15 November to 15 December. Hobsons Bay UP presents a series of free events designed for young people aged 12-25 to come together and celebrate their contributions in 2020.
PLATFORM (LOCAL) – presented by The Substation in partnership with Hobsons Bay Creative City and featured as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival, PLATFORM is a digitally-scaled recreation of The SUBSTATION building hosted inside a private Minecraft server. It is a space for artists across visual arts and electronic music to develop and present new work. Held on Friday 20 November, in-game audiences are free to explore the iconic Newport building, attend exhibitions across its galleries and interact with other audience avatars. The artworks featured in Platform have been selected from Laverton’s Woods Street Youth Art Prize 2020 and will also feature music by local Indigenous DJs Tongberangi Ngargga.
