The Hobsons Bay Art Society Inc. began in 1978 under the name of the Altona Artists Association. The group was founded by Joan & Derek Craggs and started with 26 members. The Society takes pride in its community and over the years has fostered the arts in the area. Since 1978 it has organised and presented an annual art show which attracts many artists from the western region and is sponsored by local companies, businesses and community groups.
The Society operates out of the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre, offering art classes, including children’s classes, at affordable rates, tutored by experienced and talented Society members. Members also run classes in their own studios. It is coordinated by Kirsten Craggs.
