Mesh Mash was founded in late 2014. It grew from the strategic program ‘I am Local’ aimed at engaging local young people held at Woods Street Arts Space, Laverton. The program was supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council’s Mayoral program as the need for young people engagement had been identified through Council’s social planning and the latest census data.

After trialling some initiatives with a mixture of success, a print-making studio was developed to empower young participants to own their ideas a way of owning their ideas diversify the way they made art while making sellable products. This process also included business development learnings.

Young people engaged in the program, the ‘The Foundation Crew’ called this new program, ‘Mesh Mash’ which can be translated as the fine mesh of a print making screen alongside the design process, which is all about collaboration and mashing ideas together. Mesh Mash as a social enterprise was born.
