Need money to increase sport and active recreation opportunities for people with a disability? Apply for AAA funding now.
The Access for All Abilities (AAA) Grants Program aims to support the development of sustainable community based sport and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.

Victorian Volunteer Small Grants Grants of up to $5000 are now available to help not-for-profit groups attract new volunteers and increase the diversity of their volunteers. The grants are aimed at organisations wanting to increase the diversity of their volunteers and/or involve or encourage new volunteers. Preference will be given to organisations with relatively small operating budgets.

With funding from the Department of Planning and Community Development, Maribyrnong City Council is currently preparing a Corporate Voluntary Resource Kit to support community organisations in linking up with corporate volunteers.
The kit will be launched in June 2009 and will include a variety of articles, information, documents and resources that are specifically designed to help organisations recruit, train and retain corporate volunteers.

Timehelp is a unique community volunteer program in Hobsons Bay that connects generations for education, health and wellbeing benefits. Volunteers help out at local schools in a range of projects from reading and writing assistance to gardening, cooking, library support, art and sport support etc. Come and find out how it works at our free information session and morning tea on Thursday, 19th March 2009 at 10.00am-12.00pm. Would you like to learn more about how to access funding for your community group or how to write a grant application? A short training course will be held in March at the Multicultural Hub. Topics include what funding bodies are looking for, finding the right grant, developing your proposal and writing a funding budget.
The three week program costs $50 for employees of not-for-profit groups and organisations and $30 for volunteers. Places are limited. The Multicultural Hub is a City of Melbourne Initiative managed by AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Services).

Four employees from Ernst and Young spent a warm day in January volunteering at Frances Sullivan Kindergarten in Brooklyn gardening and carrying out general cleaning up duties. The volunteers enjoyed their day out of the office and enjoyed cool drinks and a barbecue lunch supplied by the kinder.

The Odd Spot Café in Melbourne Road, Newport, provided a hot Christmas lunch to local residents who may otherwise have been eating lunch on their own.
Chef and owner Sarah Pope, her family and staff volunteered their time to prepare, serve and clean up at the end of the meal. The twenty residents were treated to a beautiful meal and in addition to the lunch, Sarah also cooked relish and fruitcake for each of the guests to take home.

The Living Green in Hobsons Bay Ambassadors Program begins on Wednesday, 4th March 2009. Participants will learn how to work with others to facilitate change in sustainable living.
This program, developed in partnership with Swinburne’s National Centre for Sustainability, provides an opportunity to support local change and become a leader in your local community in encouraging and supporting sustainability and the key issues affecting behaviour change.

A community meeting room is now available for hire at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre. The room is being provided as a meeting space for local community groups and businesses and is available for hire during business hours, in the evenings and at weekends.
