The KCCCP aims to keep all the different stakeholders in touch with one another's work and ensure everyone works together to achieve the vision for the creek.

It also ensures there is an ongoing, coordinated approach to caring for the creek.

Resident Bob Harrison shows off the energy efficient streetlighting around Port Phillip Retirement  Village

Port Phillip Retirement Village goes green.

Port Phillip Retirement Village in Altona comprises 128 independent living units and 33 serviced apartments for seniors.

Its 200 residents have done lots of little things, and a few very big things, to substantially reduce the environmental footprint of the village.

Initiatives include changing to energy efficient lightbulbs and installing water tanks.

Snakes in Summer

Tiger snake

Look out for snakes this summer.

As the mercury continues to rise, the Council is reminding people to be aware of snakes as they emerge from their winter hiding spots.

Take care when walking along creeks and bike tracks as some areas are a natural habitat for snakes - and you may need to share the path.

Greenhouse Action Plan

Environmental engineer changes a light bulb to an energy efficient one

The Council takes action.

In October, the Council adopted the Greenhouse Action Plan 2008-2013 which sets out how the Council will become carbon neutral by 2020.

It also outlines how the Council will assist the community to cut down on energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to become carbon neutral by 2030.

On Your Bike!

Map encourages residents to travel smarter.

The Council, in partnership with the Department of Transport, introduces the brand new Hobsons Bay TravelSmart Map.

The map was launched at Laverton Festival on Saturday, 15th November, encouraging residents to leave their cars at home and travel sustainably.

Beach Recycling Trial Extended for Summer

Recycling bins at Altona beach

The Council has decided to continue the Public Place Recycling program over the summer.

The Council ran a trial of the recycling bins at the Williamstown and Altona beaches last August, with the aim of encouraging residents and visitors to continue their recycling efforts outside of the home.

  • Friends groups conservation activities - various dates. The friends groups are taking a well deserved break and will be back in February.
