Truganina Coastal Parklands Altona
Truganina Park has been created on the site of the former Altona Tip.
A feature of the park is the 100 Steps to Federation, a stone staircase made of basalt rock recycled from when the area was a clean-fill tip.
At the summit of the 17 metre high mound is a viewing area that provides extensive views of the local coast. On a clear day, Melbourne CBD and Port Phillip Heads are visible.
The sculpture at the summit, Time Beacon, is by artist Cameron Robbins.
A concrete stormwater drain through the park, which takes stormwater from the adjacent residential area of Altona Meadows, was restructured to form a filtration wetland, in which the stormwater is naturally cleaned before being discharged to Port Phillip Bay.
Location
Queen Street, Altona Meadows – Melway 208 K3.
