Festivals and events

Festivals and event information in Hobsons Bay.

If you live in the inner west, chances are you have experienced more than one of the festivals and events that take place each year in Hobsons Bay and its surrounding municipalities.

Festivals can be a wonderful way to celebrate and to inspire. When they are free or very low cost, they can also be great family entertainment.  Festivals can celebrate communities and particular cultures, and help inform and inspire, especially when they are about the arts, about diversity, and about where we live.

The Council provides funding sponsorship to a number of organisations that present festivals in Hobsons Bay including Eid Festival, Laverton Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Williamstown Literary Festival and in 2011 and 2012 operated the Altona Beach Festival.  Partnerships in flagship events like GOWEST for Midsumma or local events as part of Big West round out the calendar, adding value to residents by bringing unique experiences (and lots of visitors!) close to home.

The Council produces its own events, providing free summer music and film events in beautiful outdoor locations. As part of the Hobsons Bay Sustainable Tourism Strategy, sponsorship can be provided to events that focus on ways to celebrate our unique environment, our maritime history and the coast.
