Cultural Projects
Cultural development is an important aspect of the Council’s arts strategy. Opportunities for lead artists to work and share their skills with groups of people result in great experiences such as The Garden with Amaroo, Crashendo and Sistema Australia’s pilot project at Laverton P-12, and the Boon Wurrung Ngargee delivered as part of the 2011 Mayoral Program.
Crashendo -
Sistema at Laverton P-12
Crashendo is a music project that creates opportunities for younger children and their families to experience and learn about music in a supportive after-school setting. This model has had successful outcomes in disadvantaged communities, most notably in Venezuela where it started as El Sistema and in Scotland where it runs as Big Noise. Crashendo at Laverton P-12 is a national pilot. View our Crashendo 2011 documentary below.
PIXEL8
PIXEL8 is a photographic competition for 12 to 18 year olds who live, work or go to school in Hobsons Bay, where they are given the opportunity to photograph their impressions of living in Hobsons Bay, with the themes of harmony and cultural diversity. Entrants were encouraged to capture positive aspects of Hobsons Bay, through it's people, cultural diversity and places and to look for the more obscure and unusual places and people that distinctively represent the area.
In 2012 there were over 150 entries with each photograph fitting the brief of Harmony and Cultural Diversity.
