Council has adopted a Climate Change Policy and a suite of supporting strategies for most aspects of environmental management. These documents include actions for Council, advocacy for other government agencies and actions for the local community.

Climate Change Policy 2013
The Climate Change Policy 2013(PDF, 2MB) has been developed as a response to the projected implications of climate change on Hobsons Bay's social, environmental and economic sustainability.
Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2013-18
The Climate Change Adaptation Plan(PDF, 5MB) focuses on preparing Council’s infrastructure, programs and services so that they can manage the anticipated impacts of climate change.
Corporate Greenhouse Strategy 2013-20
The Corporate Greenhouse Strategy 2013-2020(PDF, 5MB) provides the framework for Council to become carbon neutral in its operations by 2020.

Target 2265 - A Four Year Reduction Plan
Target 2265(PDF, 310KB) was developed to provide a new and improved approach to reducing Council’s emissions. This plan identifies our emissions target (2265 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions) and how Council will reduce emissions from now until 2020.
Community Greenhouse Strategy 2013-30
The Hobsons Bay Community Greenhouse Strategy 2013-2030(PDF, 25MB) has been developed by Hobsons Bay City Council to support the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the municipality.
Council has an important role in enabling, engaging and encouraging the local community to move to a low carbon future. This strategy will allow Council to consider actions toward this broad goal and, in particular, to achieve the objective of becoming a zero net emissions community by 2030.
The Biodiversity Strategy(PDF, 4MB) provides the strategic direction to guide Council’s management of its significant flora and fauna whilst ensuring alignment with Council operations, particularly conservation, land use planning and open space planning.
Living Hobsons Bay: Integrated Water Management Plan 2014-19
The 2014-19 Integrated Water Management Plan(PDF, 3MB) describes Council’s sustainable water management goals for the next five years as well as how Council will measure its progress as we plan, deliver and advocate for improved water management.
Waste and litter
Waste & Litter Management Plan 2012-17
The Waste and Litter Management Plan sets the direction of waste and litter management for the municipality.
Environmental Engagement Strategy 2013-18
Through the Environmental Engagement Strategy(PDF, 5MB), Council commits to engagement with the community and aims to maximise community engagement and participation. The Strategy recognises the great work already being done by the community. It identifies principles, goals, objectives and directions to build on this and assist the community to further increase its capacity to become informed and inspired and feel supported to act.
Environmental Sustainability Reports
The Environmental Sustainability Report is a report of Council's key environmental undertakings and the results of five years of measurement of greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste collection.
Council also undertakes day-to day activities and many projects to protect our biodiversity, manage waste and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and water use. In addition, major strategies and plans are reviewed and developed to help direct efforts of Council to target resources. The strategic work is outlined in these reports.

Open Space Plan
The Open Space Plan(PDF, 649KB) has been developed to ensure a vital and integrated park network is developed and maintained to meet the needs of the environment, community and visitors, and future generations.
The Integrated Transport Strategy and the Williamstown Transport Strategy intend to provide a basic framework for future transport development that will enable both residents and visitors to access their destination in a safe, equitable and efficient manner.
Strategic Bicycle Plan
The draft Hobsons Bay Strategic Bicycle Plan aims to provide a framework for the effective implementation of bicycle facilities throughout the municipality.
The key objective of the Strategic Bicycle Plan is to promote cycling within Hobsons Bay as a safe and healthy activity by developing a highly connective network of on and off-road bicycle routes as well as a range of education, promotion and enforcement initiatives.
