Hobsons Bay City Council has completed the streetscape upgrade works at the Second Avenue shopping strip in Altona North.
Deputy Mayor and Cherry Lake Ward Councillor Tony Briffa said the upgrade has made a remarkable difference to the popular shopping strip.
“Second Avenue is looking great and there are so many improved features that will serve our entire community well,” said Cr Briffa.
“The works have really improved parking conditions and traffic movements for the area, which will help make the shopping strip more connected for pedestrians.
“We’ve upgraded and widened the footpaths and installed new pram ramps to provide better accessibility.
“The road and car park have also been resurfaced, the on-street parking has been improved and the vehicle speed limit has been reduced.”
Cherry Lake Ward Councillor Sandra Wilson said the design for the streetscape upgrade was developed in consultation with the traders and residents and the focus was on enlivening the area with spaces the community could enjoy.
“The works have really made the street more user-friendly and attractive for shoppers, residents and visitors,” said Cr Wilson.
“We have included a social gathering space with new seating and trees for more shade, as well as new bike hoops and rubbish bins.
“All your favourite Altona North shops have been open throughout the works but if you haven't been in a while, I encourage everyone to head down to Second Avenue and pay them a visit and check out this new and improved space,” said Cr Wilson.
“We thank our traders and residents for their patience during the works and we looking forward to Second Avenue being enjoyed by our entire community.”
