News item release date: Wednesday, 22 February 2017
The Hobsons Bay community is invited to pull on some gloves to give our city a little extra sparkle on Clean Up Australia Day.
Clean up Australia Day will take place on Sunday 5 March and is Australia’s largest annual community-based environmental event.
Last year over three quarters of a million volunteers have removed the equivalent of more than 16,000 ute loads of rubbish from 8,205 locations across Australia.
Clean Up Australia Day is a great way for the community to come together and help clean up local parks and waterways and reduce the impact on the environment.
You can find and join existing events in your area or register a new event on the Clean Up Australia Day website.
Some of the clean up sites currently registered in Hobsons Bay include the 100 Steps of Federation, Point Gellibrand, Jawbone Marine Sanctuary, McCormack Park, Market Street Reserve, Newport Lakes, Paisley Challis Wetlands and Wader Beach.
Visit www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au to register a site online, find a local site where you can register as a volunteer or see more information. Alternatively, call 1800 CUA DAY (1800 282 329).
Council will provide support to groups that have registered a community site with Clean Up Australia Day, including free rubbish collections. Contact Council on 9932 1000 to discuss this support.
