Council in partnership with the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek and local artist Geoffrey Ricardo will present a walking tour along the Kororoit Creek Trail on Saturday April 14 at 10am.
The Kororoit Creek Trail was officially opened last year following two decades of care, dedication and planting by the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek and founding President Geoff Mitchelmore.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Angela Altair said the walk was a great opportunity for residents and visitors to discover the delights of the Kororoit Creek Trail.
“As part of my Mayoral Program, I’m delighted to introduce people to some of the hidden gems in Hobsons Bay,” said Cr Altair.
“From Kororoit Creek, to Truganina Explosives Reserve and Newport Lakes, there are so many treasures just waiting to be discovered.
“I want people to come down and discover this place for what it is, a breathtaking natural landscape scattered with artworks that can’t remain a best kept secret anymore.
“This will be a really nice way to spend a Saturday morning and I look forward to anyone interested in joining us for a casual walk, a chat and tea or coffee.”
Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek founding President Geoff Mitchelmore said the transformation of the creek is the result of a hard working community.
“Lots of dirt under many community members’ finger nails, hard work, support of Toyota and many others over many years has created a quiet, precious piece of nature that the whole community can now enjoy,” Mr Mitchelmore said.
As a result of a Council art commission, funded by Toyota, the trail is dotted with unique sculptures created by local artist Geoffrey Ricardo.
His work titled A strange trail of beasts, spirits and guardians features eight figures, each about three metres tall, spaced along the trail.
Geoffrey will be present on the day to talk about his work and a Council Conservation Ranger will also be available to answer questions about the local wildlife.

The walk will commence at 10am on Saturday 14 April and finish around midday.
Meet at Blackshaws Road Carpark at GJ Hosken Reserve, Altona North.
Tea & coffee will be provided.
