Council has lodged its submission on the West Gate Tunnel Project's Environmental Effects Statement with the Minister for Planning. Whilst Council acknowledges that the project is a key transport infrastructure project that supports future growth and planning for the western metropolitan region in the short to medium term, it also recognises that the project will have significant impacts on traffic, pollution, amenity and the natural environment within Hobsons Bay.
Some key issues which are yet to be addressed include toll avoidance, truck bans, local traffic congestion, air and noise emissions, and subsequent impacts on the community.
