News item release date: Friday, 25 August 2017
Entries are now open for Hobsons Bay Libraries’ 10th annual illustration competition, renamed Drawn by the Bay in 2017.
Be in the ‘draw’ to win one of the biggest western suburbs art prizes! Young illustrators (prep to year 12) who live or study in Hobsons Bay, or who are Hobsons Bay Libraries members, are invited to enter their original artwork in any medium, inspired by a book of their choice.
Started by Friends of Altona Libraries, in a partnership with Hobsons Bay Libraries that continues to this day, the competition promotes an interest in literature and helps to foster the libraries’ goal of life-long learning.
Drawn by the Bay connects young people of Hobsons Bay to literature through art, inviting the submission of entries in creative response to a book that inspired them. It provides entrants with an opportunity to showcase both their own talents, and shine a spotlight on their favourite authors. Previous entries have reflected the written talent of a diverse range of authors from Williamstown’s own Leigh Hobbs to J K Rowling, the hilarious Mo Willems to that of Dr Seuss, and many in between!
Entries close at 4pm on Saturday 7 October. For more information, entry forms and competition terms and conditions can be found at http://libraries.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/
Winners will be announced at the awards night on Thursday 16 November at Laverton Community Hub, with special guest illustrator Elise Hurst.
