From listies to lumps... Arts at your Doorstep

News item release date: Monday, 20 March 2017

Over the next few months, some of Australia’s top comedy, cabaret and theatre performers will be travelling across the West Gate Bridge.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Sandra Wilson said the latest Arts at your Doorstep program is worthy of a five star review.

“Whatever your age or your interests, the program has something for everyone.”

“This year, we’re being treated to a smorgasbord of productions ranging from children’s comedy to musical theatre, from literary dramatization to comedy and cabaret.”

The season will kick off with The Listies, Australia’s most sought after children’s comedians.

The program then moves from children’s comedy to jazz cabaret when infamous drag diva Yana Alana appears at the Williamstown Mechanics Institute.

The confronting Coranderrk comes to Altona Theatre on 18 May, while a week later, the Williamstown Mechanics Institute will host Hello Beautiful, Hannie Rayson’s heartwarming memoir.

The haunting musical performance The Crow Family arrives in August, followed by Hobsons Voice, the choral extravaganza channelling the voices of over 2,000 children.

The season then closes with Lovely Lady Lump, Lana Schwarz’s poignant yet hilarious account of breast cancer.

Cr Wilson said it’s great to get so many inspiring performers stopping in Hobsons Bay.

“Arts and culture is important to the vitality of the city, and participating in the arts adds richness to our daily lives.

“We thoroughly recommend you attend one or two of the performances – it’s a great chance to experience some of the best performances in Australia without the travel or parking stresses of heading into the city.”
