Challis Street Drainage Installation
Creating a backbone to the Newport drainage system connecting the surrounding streets to the outfall drain.
Hobsons Bay City Council will be installing a drainage line in Challis Street, Newport in the first phase to creating a drainage network in Newport East.
The Challis Street drain will act as a ‘backbone’ to the Newport drainage system connecting the surrounding streets to the outfall drain. This is a critical piece of infrastructure that is necessary for the drainage of this area and to mitigate flood events from any rain storms in the future.
The drainage installation commenced at Railway Parade and will be completed in sections progressing north.
Installation works are scheduled to be completed by the end of October, weather dependent. Road closures will occur in sections while works are being completed. Traffic management will be on site during works. The Challis Street shops will remain open throughout the works.
Installation works in Challis Street have commenced and are progressing.
Currently, works are underway installing drainage through the intersection (roundabout) of Jubilee and Challis Streets. During this section of the works there has been a partial road closure of the roundabout while the drainage pipes are being installed. Council thanks the community for their patience during this period.
The works themselves will be finishing at Severn Street, stopping short of the Challis Street shops by a block.
The shops, eateries and services in the Challis Street trading precinct will remain open throughout the duration of the works.
These works are part of Council's Capital Works budget that improves Hobsons Bay's vital infrastructure.
