Multicultural Policy 2012-2015

Hobsons Bay City Council’s Multicultural Policy 2012-2015 will guide the Council’s work in service provision, planning, advocacy and community development for its culturally diverse community. It provides a platform for collaboration between all areas of the Council business, service providers, other tiers of government and the community, to achieve the Council’s vision for a municipality which understands, respects and celebrates its cultural diversity together.

The Multicultural Policy 2012-2015 is based on evidence relating to local issues within our municipality. It outlines the Council’s priorities for responding to the changing needs of our CALD communities and recognises that:

  • Cultural diversity is one of the municipality’s great social, cultural and economic resources. It creates jobs, helps trade, provides expertise, encourages tourism and enriches our culture;
  • Council processes and services need to meet the needs of people from CALD backgrounds so as to allow residents’ full participation in the economic, social and cultural life of the city;
  • The council is well placed to promote social harmony and multiculturalism more broadly.

The Multicultural Policy 2012-2015 consists of the

following four areas of work for the Council:

Recognising and Respecting Diversity

Integrated Planning and Service Delivery

Building a Sense of Belonging

Communication and Information
