Alcohol and tobacco restrictions
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in some areas of Hobsons Bay.
In accordance with clause 86 (2) of its Community Local Law (the Local Law), Hobsons Bay City Council (the Council) will trial an extension to designated areas outlined in table below, in which no person may, at any time from 12.01am on Saturday, 1st December 2012 for five months until Tuesdayy, 30th April 2013, consume any alcoholic beverage or have in his or her possession any alcoholic beverage in an unsealed container.

Tobacco Act restrictions
Test purchases are regularly conducted at tobacco retailers, eating establishments and licensed premises for sales to minors to ensure compliance with the Tobacco Act.
The Council also responds to any complaints of breaches of smoke free dining, display and advertising of tobacco products and cigarette sales to minors.
Smoking is prohibited in any enclosed dining area or workplace. Businesses that offer outdoor dining must provide wind proof ashtrays, under the Council's Footpath Trading Code of Practice.
Local Law Smoking Restrictions
Under its Community Local Law, Hobsons Bay City Council has banned smoking at the following locations:
- Williamstown Beach – the sand area between Victoria and Garden Streets;
- Altona Beach – the sand area between Romawi and Mount Streets; and
- Within five metres of children’s playgrounds.
