Food Safety Awards
The 2012 Food Safety Awards were presented to the five winning businesses by Cr Paul Morgan and the Mayor Cr Angela Altair on 14th March 2013.
Congratulations to the winning businesses. They have all performed well in the lead up to the 2012 awards and have worked consistently throughout the year to provide safe and suitable food for our community.

The five category award winners each received:
- Complimentary food premises registrations; and
- Promotion on the Hobsons Bay website and in local media.
During the 2012 registration year (October 2011 till September 2012) 215 food businesses qualified for the annual Food Safety Awards.
The hard work of proprietors and staff has paid dividends there was a remarkable improvement in food premises hygiene.
Qualifying for the Food Safety Awards
Businesses are assessed by Council’s Public Health Unit and checked against the Australian Food Standards. If a business receives a score of 92 or above out of a possible 100, they are notified that they are “In The Running” for the award.

At the end of the registration year the 'In the Runnings' recipients will be checked for
- Any justified food safety and/or food handling complaints and environmental swabs or food samples taken within the 12 month assessment period; and
- A working food safety program, or in the case of Class 3, Minimum Records.
A further inspection will be completed at the two top performing premises in each category.
