Hobsons Bay City Council is proud to announce the construction of a $5.4 million Early Years Centre in Newport. The centrally based facility will provide families in the area with the highest quality care and education in a state-of-the-art building located on the Newport Gardens Primary School site.
The new facility will consolidate services from Williamstown Childcare Co-operative, Hobsons Bay Kindergarten and the Hobsons Bay Toy Library.
The location of the new facility on Maddox Road, Newport, only 5kms from central Williamstown and in close proximity to the Hobsons Bay Kindergarten, provides convenient access for families using the existing services.
Newport Gardens Early Years Centre boasts innovative design features including rooms placed around a central courtyard garden to allow integrated and seamless service delivery for families. The building is constructed from environmentally friendly materials in indoor and outdoor areas.
A not-for-profit provider will manage the facility in conjunction with the Council. The Council will encourage and foster community participation from families accessing the facility and the broader community. The Council anticipates engaging a management provider by the start of 2013.
Programs and Services
The Centre will provide a range of quality, accessible and affordable services and programs creating an inclusive environment that promotes community engagement and participation.
Services will include:
- Childcare – birth to 6 years
- Funded four year old kindergarten
- Maternal Child Health
- Hobsons Bay Toy Library
- Yooralla (early intervention services)
- Community rooms
- Family support services
- Other early years programs

The centre is due to open in January 2014.
