Fire safety

Be fire ready this summer. Remember:

  • fires can start and move quickly. It is essential to be aware of what is happening in your area
  • it is critical for your safety to use more than one source for warnings
  • on high-risk days, monitor the conditions around you
  • get the most up-to-date information through the CFA website, the FireReady App, CFA's social media channels such as facebook and twitter, local radio or the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667
  • be prepared to leave early and plan where you are going
  • pack a relocation kit including a back-up battery radio, medication, water and a torch

With Victoria now experiencing severe weather, we encourage you to consider your emergency safety plans and importantly, to assist relatives, friends or neighbours to plan ahead.

To help Victorians with their summer safety planning, the Victorian Government is distributing copies of the 'Red Cross Bushfires: Preparing to leave early plan'.

This free publication is available from the CFA website (www.cfa.vic.gov.au), the Red Cross website (www.redcross.org.au), or by calling the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
