2012 Business Excellence Award Winners
Almost 30 years ago, two brothers started developing property. In 2012, they employed 250 people and have been named Business of the Year at the annual Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards.
Announced at a gala dinner on Friday, 7th September at the Williamstown Town Hall, Altona-based business Burbank took out the top prize.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Tony Briffa said Burbank was started by step-brothers Eddie Sanfilippo and Eddie Puhar and were recognised for their positive workplace culture and established planning processes that have allowed it to prosper in a highly competitive market and during vulnerable economic times.
“The customer is at the forefront of this business, with products adapted to meet changing demands and practice reviews every six weeks,” said Cr Briffa.
“This business is a great story for Hobsons Bay. It provides significant local employment, buys local products where it can and provides sponsorship to local sporting groups. Their passion and success is demonstrated in the company we see today.
“The winner is an outstanding business and Hobsons Bay is proud to have them call us home!”
The Mayor said the calibre of the judging panel was high and showed professionalism and commitment to award the best of the best of Hobsons Bay’s businesses.
“Hobsons Bay’s fourth business excellence awards has built on the strength of previous years and acknowledges the importance of a thriving local business community,” said Cr Briffa.
“We recognise the diverse business community in Hobsons Bay and celebrate our local success stories.
“Business provides prosperity, visitation, employment and the goods and services we need to sustain our community. Congratulations to all of our businesses.”
