Cherry Lake Altona
Cherry Lake has a 3.5 kilometre walking and cycling trail around the lake as well as a children's playground and picnic and barbecue area.
The lake provides habitats for a range of native birds including pelicans, swans and swamp hens.
Strands of Chaffy Saw Sedge at the western end of the lake provide habitat for the Altona Skipper Butterfly.
The lake, which is managed by Melbourne Water, is a flood retarding basin created in the 1970s to help prevent flooding of the rapidly expanding Altona residential area.
