Newport Lakes, Newport
Newport Lakes is a bushland oasis created from a former bluestone quarry and rubbish tip site in the middle of Newport.
The park is 33 hectares in size and is a great place for a picnic with family and friends, for a leisurely walk or just to relax in a tranquil bushland setting. The lakes area of the park has been extensively revegetated using native plants, with over 200 species of plants and 165 species of birds recorded here.
To find out more about the history, flora and fauna and more about the park, visit the Friends of Newport Lakes webpage.
A self-guided two kilometres nature trail around the lake takes approximately 40 minutes, at a leisurely pace. A brochure about the trail is available from the on-site nursery.
Newport Lakes Park is available for booking private functions including weddings. The public car park is open daily from 8am to dusk. The park is open to visitors on foot at all hours.

Dogs are not permitted in the area around the Lakes but are welcome at the north-western end of the park.
The Newport Lakes Reserve holds significant historical, ecological, and recreational value for the Hobsons Bay community. This unique converted bushland park has taken many years of revegetation work from Council and volunteers to return the landscape into a conservation reserve that contains thriving flora and fauna.
Council takes every measure to preserve and protect this rich community asset. In order to keep the reserve healthy, the community is required to stay to the paths that are clearly marked through the reserve. This is for safety reasons and to minimise damage and disturbance to ensure the preservation of the reserve for future generations.

Car Park Construction
We are constructing the main entrance and car park to Newport Lakes. Works include installation of drainage, storm water pits, kerb and channel and asphalting of the existing surface.
Works are currently underway and are scheduled for completion by the end of November 2017.
Council is taking a staged approach to minimise disruption, however some unavoidable closures and limited access will occur.
Council's contractors will continue works on the carpark this weekend Saturday, 11 November 2017 between 7am and 5pm, as per EPA Guidelines. Visitors to Newport Lakes will still be able to access the reserve from Mason Street, however the main carpark will be unavailable.
Alternatively, return to this page, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 9932 1131 for further works updates.
