Art in Public Places 1 to 30 September 2017
Art in Public Places is coordinated by Hobsons Bay City Council as a city wide event that exhibits the artwork of western region artists in unexpected places across Hobsons Bay. Over the years that the project has been running, it has enabled more than 800 artists to exhibit in businesses and various venues in Hobsons Bay and expanded to include numerous community events and organisations.
Art in Public Place s is about people getting to experience the arts in unexpected places and encourages the creation of partnerships between local artists, cultural groups and businesses right across the city.
Hobsons Bay City Council will host an information night for interested artists and event producers on:
Wednesday 30 November 2016 6pm to 7.30pm

Artists in Businesses
Over the past 10 years, the artists in business component has enabled more than 800 artists to exhibit in businesses and various venues across Hobsons Bay. Artists in businesses will continue to be one of our core premier events for Art in Public Places 2017. This component of the program is for Western Region artists only.
This year the major public art activations and events programed by Hobsons Bay City Council will feature as premier events. It’s anticipated there will be between five and seven premier events across the municipality. Premier events will feature prominently in the program and include various methods of community engagement in the development of the works. Keep an ear to the ground for opportunities to be involved, examples include the Blockumentary in Laverton or The Good News Bunting in South Kingsville and other places and Light up Logan in Altona.
Light up Logan
In 2015 we launched the inaugural Light up Logan event in Logan Reserve, Altona. To continue and grow this popular event we will be calling for expressions of interest for up to six lighting projects with an artist’s fee of $1,000 each to be installed in and around Logan Reserve, Altona. More information on this new opportunity will be available at the information session in November. For now, just start brainstorming your ideas.
Hello Neighbour offers opportunities for community-led projects to occupy various precincts in Hobsons Bay, this could include underpasses or temporary pop-ups. Three Hello Neighbour projects will be selected each with a $1,000 project fee. The selected projects will need to show that they have fully engaged with neighbours and the community and ideas must be creative-art and design-based and occur in public space.
Temporary Art interventions
A number of sites will be identified for temporary street-art projects. These will enable both young people in Hobsons Bay to develop ideas as well as include commissioned works by well known street artists.
If you are holding an arts-based event and would like it to be promoted under the Satellite Events section of the Art in Public Places website and promotional materials, we welcome your submissions. It will need to be within Hobsons Bay and open to the public to be included.
