Talk on local grasslands by Dean Stewart

Dean Stewart is a Victorian Aboriginal man who speaks in a very engaging way about the way indigenous people and animals lived on our local land.
Aboriginal Weaving Workshop with Donna Blackall

Donna Blackall is a Yorta Yorta woman who has been weaving for about 9 years. Her beautiful weaving work is represented in the Koori Heritage Trust and she is a cultural guide in Melbourne. Donna will teach the group how to make a small basket or some other form if you have a particular idea in mind using her weaving technique.
‘Bush Toys’ (Animal Sculptures) Workshop with Bronwyn Razem

11am – 1pm
Gunditjmara fibre artist, Bronwyn Razem is a member of the Victorian Aboriginal Weavers Collective and a great teacher of her craft. Bronwyn will teach the group how to make ‘bush toys’, which are beautiful animal sculptures using grasses and bound with coloured wool. Please bring your own coloured wool if you have particular colours you would like to use. Strong wool works best. Grasses provided.

This talk and series of workshops have been designed to assist the Loom Room to prepare for an exhibition of their work to be held at Altona Meadows’ Orbital Art Space as part of Art In Public Places in September.
